Child safety NVQ for parents & carers

The flagship of the Sure Start - Safe Start project. Building capacity, developing sustainability.

It's proper title is 'Introductory Certificate in Home Safety and Voluntary Training' but we've all got used to the 'NVQ' shorthand.

This is a 10 week (x2 hour) course for parents and carers that will cover home safety, paediatric first aid, home safety checking etc. that will help parents and carers keep their own children safer and at the same time train them as community home safety volunteers able to be peer trainers and undertake home safety checks. They will also receive an NVQ level 1 (accredited by ASSET)

The course has been developed and piloted by the Whoops! Child Safety Project in Gateshead who are possibly the country's most innovative and exciting child safety projects.

They have also been rigourously evaluated over the last year and found to be incredible effective!

Cornwall is the first area to be able to take advantage of their fantastic work in this field and we are incredibly proud that we are to bring it here and excited by the potential.

We are setting up our first courses in the North Cornwall Sure Start area but hope to roll it out to other Sure Starts as funding / capacity allows.
