Below is a quick role description for each project involved.
Health Promotion Administration & Information
This is a great way to turn the knowledge of admin into proven experience. You will also have the opportunity to see how different Health Promotion projects run. The main role of the volunteer will be general admin duties, these will differ dependant on the needs of the department. Duties may vary between stuffing envelopes, typing documents to helping organise a conference.
Community Health Development Team
The Community Health Development Team co-ordinate the Health Trainer Service, Step By Step project and Small Grant Scheme for Community Groups. We aim to support people to reduce their barriers to living a healthier lifestyle especially in areas of Cornwall with higher health inequalities.
Opportunities here could involve: Assisting a Community Health Development Worker and/or a Health Trainer. This could be in group work or community events.
Eatsome
Eatsome work throughout Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly with all age groups promoting healthy eating through practical and realistic cooking sessions.
LEAP Active
LEAP works throughout Cornwall encouraging individuals to become more physically active in their daily lives. The project supports the target age groups 8-16 & 50+.
Mental Health Promotion
To promote the benefit of mental well-being around C&IOS, raise awareness and reduce the stigma attached to having mental ill-health. There will be no client-contact as this role is act as a facilitator and signpost service. MHP is aimed at all ages throughout the county.
Mobilise!
Mobilise! is a Cornwall-wide initiative that aims to get people more active, more often, through cycling and walking.
Mobilise! organise regular cycle rides and walks on beautiful trails and paths in Cornwall known as “Pedal Back The Years” and “Stroll Back The Years”. It co-runs a maintenance scheme, “Saddlebags and Secateurs,” that helps keep paths on the Clay Trails clear of vegetation. Mobilise! works by recruiting and training volunteer walk and ride supporters to be able to inspire and help others to choose a more active lifestyle. Mobilise! is a free and friendly way to gently exercise in Cornwall’s great outdoors and it welcomes anyone, whatever their age or ability.
Speakeasy
Speakeasy offers a relaxed, informal, group-based opportunity for parents and carers to acquire the confidence and skills they need to talk to their children about growing up, sex & relationships. It is designed to be fun and informative, providing an atmosphere where parents can learn together from their experiences.
Stop Smoking Service
Our aim is to offer FREE help and support to anyone who wants to stop smoking.
It has been proven that using the friendly help and support of a trained NHS advisor plus medication on prescription you are up to 4 times more likely to successfully quit smoking:
We might need help with:
· Countywide awareness events
· Community ‘drop-ins’
· Assist link worker with office based tasks
· Assisting with training (administration)
· Brief Intervention training to enhance awareness on smoking issues.
Weight Matters
"Supporting adults to make lifestyle changes to eat better, move more and attain a healthy weight"
Volunteering opportunities are available to support participants in Community Weight Matters Groups who may need additional help to complete tasks or just need a bit more one to one assistance. Groups are offered in blocks of 8 weekly sessions throughout the County on a rolling 12 month programme.
Workplace Health
The workplace is a setting where many people spend the largest proportion of their time and therefore can play a key role in contributing to the health of their employees and in turn the health of their organisation.
Volunteering opportunities in promoting Workplace Health can include:
· Shadowing the Workplace Health Coordinator.
· Assisting in the delivery of on-site health promoting activities and initiatives within workplaces.
· Promoting and supporting the delivery of the Healthy Workplace Award Scheme
