Employment

Over 35 Clients (that we know about) have gained employment.  Of these, the vast majority have been re-entering the workplace after a significant period of unemployment.  For example SA014 who found gainful employment after 13 years of unemployment.
Volunteering

In excess of 25 clients have begun volunteering as a result of their contact with a Health Trainer.  For many clients this has acted as a gateway to future employment opportunities.  For example:  NQ001.  The voluntary work that this client undertook acted as a gateway to a paid position at the local Children’s Centre.  For others the act of Volunteering is a means of socialising with others and contributing to their local community.  (This figure of 20 does not include volunteer walk leaders or Shape Up leader figures which are not available)
Training

Health Trainers have assisted over 40 clients in accessing training courses, in some cases this has resulted in clients obtaining paid employment.  In other cases training has been provided to clients who wish to become more involved in volunteering.
Assistance with Finance

Health Trainers have supported and offered advice to many clients (more than 42) regarding financial issues.  The three main areas being covered are:

  • Help with accessing benefits
  • Debt management advice (signposting, support and in some cases advocacy)
  • Help to access funding re: training courses.

In one instance a client was assisted in sourcing funding to pay for driving lessons in order that she may able to travel to work.
Shape Up (Weight Management Programme and Increasing Activity):
Over the course of the project in excess of 65 clients have been on the Shape Up programme and successfully completed it (made behaviour changes and lost weight/ become more active).  Clients initially join up to become more active, eat more healthily or lost weight.  It soon becomes apparent to the client through contact with the Health Trainer that these three issues are not mutually exclusive (Shape Up addresses all three in either an individual or a group setting).  Clients are also signposted to various fitness groups. During the last quarter alone a further 28 clients were signed up for Shape Up.
Other Issues

over 8 clients have identified smoking cessation as a target behaviour this quarter (5 of which are new clients) this is a higher than normal number.

Other issues:

For Client-Health Trainer contact are:  Smoking Cessation, Housing Issues, (9 new clients) Confidence Building, Increased Social Activity. (18 new clients)
