To enable the people of Cornwall and Isles of Scilly to live and work in a smoke free environment

· Provide training and education on smoking related issues
· Reduce the promotion, supply and availability of tobacco products
· Promote the provision of smoke free public places
· Raise awareness of tobacco and its consequences to health
Choosing Health priority areas:
To reduce adult smoking rates
To reduce exposure to second hand smoke
Smoke Free Cornwall was established in 2005 as an umbrella for the Cornwall and Isles of Scilly Stop Smoking Service and the Cornwall Tobacco Control Alliance.
The aim of the service is to reduce the incidence of smoking and exposure to second hand smoke - and therefore smoking related illness - by seeking opportunities to engage with smokers and non-smokers in a variety of supportive contexts.
The Stop Smoking Service provides specialist advice to those wishing to stop smoking, providing a comprehensive, quality support service to enable individuals who smoke to maximise their health by quitting. The role of the Service is to:
· Provide trained specialists in smoking cessation (over 120 across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly)
· Provide training for health professionals and others on evidence based advice and motivational support
· Provide a specialist service of midwives to work with pregnant women and their families
· Provide information and publicise the work of the Service
The Stop Smoking Service has to achieve targets set nationally for the number of people who have stopped smoking for four weeks and the Service continues to review and develop working to target more individuals, in particular those who have little or no contact with the Health Service.
The Service is well established, having trained Stop Smoking Advisors in GP surgeries, community pharmacies, community clinics and workplaces, but continues to seek opportunities to extend the service to ensure it is available to those who do not engage with health-related professionals.
The Tobacco Control Alliance advises on and supports smoke free policies and deals specifically with issues surrounding second hand smoke. The role of the Alliance is to:
· Champion smoke free environments and reduce exposure to second hand smoke
· Provide advice and support on the development and implementation of smoke free policies
· Maintain a media profile
Smoke Free Cornwall is a resource which offers information, training and support to all sectors across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. It is a strong partnership which is pivotal in helping to achieve national and local targets to reduce smoking prevalence and exposure to second hand smoke.
