Health Trainer Service
“Duncan said he felt able to trust you and was confident that his life was going to change. He told me he had never met anyone as conscientious as you. He was thrilled with the support that you have given and continue to give. He tells me that he hopes to be off benefits by next July and self sufficient.” are words from a client which epitomizes the work of the Health Trainers Service in Cornwall.
The Health Trainer Service in Cornwall & Isles of Scilly provides an encouraging and supportive role to people who want to make positive changes to their lives. Using an evidenced based approach of setting SMART goals clients are encouraged to make realistic and sustained changes to their lives; step by small step.
We offer support in the following areas:
- St Austell and the clay villages
Our Health Trainers can support people on a one to one basis, or help them to access groups should they wish; whatever suits them best. We can help people for a period of approximately 6 months, providing they continue to make positive steps forward, no matter how small. We are also able to support people while they access specialist services if that is helpful and is part of their overall plan.
Our Community Health Development Workers are able to work within our communities to help them to build capacity and make positive changes. The Community Health Development Workers also assist in the development and delivery of groups, events and fun days.
We also provide support to our communities in Cornwall and Isles of Scilly through the training we offer; in particular the Royal Society Public Health Level 2 Health Improvement and Level 1 Health Awareness. Please see the menu to the left for more information.
The Health Trainer Service is delivered through a partnership between the Cornwall & Isles of Scilly Health Promotion Service, The Conservation Volunteers and Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change (CN4C).
Cornwall Neighbourhoods for Change seeks to transform disadvantaged neighbourhoods by working with residents and partners to provide life opportunities and advocate for long-term change.
We firmly believe that the most genuine way to help people it to provide high quality and accessible services right in the heart of the community; helping people to break free from the bonds of poverty and empowering them to 'do it for themselves'.
We work with communities, groups and individuals to achieve the change that they want. We work across Cornwall from Saltash down to The lizard, St Just and Penzance.
