Drugs Education and the Curriculum

The main areas for drugs education are science and PSHE but there is also a role in Literacy, numeracy, drama and PE.

The PNS SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) materials provide a perfect opportunity to teach the skills / attititudes elements of drugs education. This is an area Kate will be concentrating on 2005 / 2006 alongside her work on Circle Time / Protective Behaviours. Indeed SEAL replaces much of the content of the CHESS pack (see the mapping exercise) and is possibly the best 'drugs' (and sex and relationships) resource available to the primary school without specifically mentioning either...
