add more infomation and link
25th July 2005 Ofsted on Drugs (education)!
Ofsted have just published a report about the quality of drugs education in schools with recommendations for future developments...
...According to Drug Education in Schools, there needs to be a greater emphasis on education regarding alcohol and tobacco because school-age children believe these pose the greatest health risks. The majority of school-age children have never used an illegal drug but will try tobacco or alcohol. Some will misuse illegal drugs but very few of those who experiment will go on to become problem drug users.
Ofsted last conducted a comprehensive survey of drug education in 1997. Since then there has been a marked improvement in the quality of planning for drug education, pupils’ achievement in this area of education is higher at all key stages, and most schools now have effective plans for dealing with drug-related incidents. However, the continued involvement of secondary teachers who lack sufficient knowledge remains an issue for some schools.
What's encouraging is that a lot of good practice identified in the is already being done in Cornwall through the Cornwall ealthy Schools Programme, CHESS and this website.
