Criteria
3 - Sex and Relationships Educations
|
There needs to be evidence that the school supports
the development of a whole school approach to
sex education. One which supports and informs
pupils and is developed inline with the latest
national guidance and young people's need. These
are the ways in which the school can show this:
By having a sex education policy that is reviewed
on a regular basis. And is established by the
schools governing body in consultation with staff,
parents and pupils (where appropriate), and in
line with national guidelines.
By having a programme of sex education suited
to pupils' age and maturity, which help to develop
their understanding of the physical and emotional
aspects of sexual relationships; the ability
to explore the reasons why young people choose
to have sex and awareness of moral issues.
By supporting the development of staff and governor
knowledge of legal requirements and pupils' entitlement.
By engaging in discussions with staff and governors
concerning issues of staff levels of comfort
with the content and teaching of SRE, consequently
developing and implementing strategies that support
these.
By ensuring that the visitor guidelines for
the school support links with external agencies
and support good practice and explore the requirements
of the pupils entitlement, agencies agenda and
programme content.
